The children have settled very well into Year 1 this half term. We have been very busy learning all about our first topic 'A Walk in the Woods'. We launched our topic with a walk around Henlow village. We walked up to The Grange and then along the pathway through the trees. We then continued our walk past Henlow Middle School and the Church. All the time we were listening for different sounds we could hear. We took lots of photographs whilst out on our walk so we could use them back in our classroom.

After our walk we made maps of our journey and then went on a sound hunt around school to see what other sound sources we could find.
We have also made some moving wood scene pictures in Technology.
In Literacy we have learnt about Traditional Tales. We started by learning how to retell the story of Little Red Riding Hood and then moved onto Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The children were all very kind to Baby Bear and each of them made him a new chair to replace the one Goldilocks broke for their homework.
We also had a visit from PC Rutt. He came to see us and talked about being a Policeman. He bought his Police car with him. We really liked the siren and the lights.

Finally, this half term we went to the church to have our bear Barnaby Christened. Some of the children acted as his parents and Godparents. He was a very good bear during the ceremony.

WOW, what a busy half term.
Our second half term will be just as busy. We are going to continue with our topic 'A Walk in the Woods.' This topic is going to conclude with our end of term production, celebrating all of the work and learning we have done in our topic. We will be performing a play written as our topic has evolved. Year 1 and 2 will be working on this together.
