PTA - What's It All About?
About The PTA
We are very fortunate at our school to have a PTA that is and has been such an integral part of the school community for many years. In its time the PTA has raised thousands of pounds, which have been spent on improving equipment and resources to enhance our children’s education and the facilities in the school in general.
The PTA also exists to provide closer links between home and school and it is an excellent way to bring staff, parents and friends together socially in support of the school, working towards a common goal.
All parents and members of the school community can get involved if they want to, even if they only have a small amount of time available, and all parents are automatically members of the Association when their children join our school.
We have over time, developed strong links with the local community and are always well supported by both residents and businesses, for which we are very grateful. Many of our local shops are very generous in their donations of raffle prizes etc

Role Of The Committee
Our committee consists of 3 Officers (Chair, Treasurer and Secretary). We also have a number of other committee members to make up the full committee.
The committee usually meets once or twice a term depending on upcoming events. Meetings are very informal, usually held in the staff room.
It is a legal requirement that organisations such as ours, with an annual income in excess of £5,000 register with the Charity Commission. As a Charity we must abide by Charity Commission rules and regulations and we are bound by a constitution.
Our Annual General Meeting is held in February and is open to all parents. This is an opportunity to come along and hear what events have taken place, funds raised and what it has been spent on. It is also the occasion when we elect a new committee.

How We Raise Money
Our funds are raised at events held throughout of the year - one of the most popular events is the Children’s Christmas Disco, which is always a sell out! This includes, a disco, face painting, a Christmas Craft room organised by the teachers, Santa’s Grotto and craft stalls.
Another really popular event is the Quiz Evening held annually in March, this is well supported by other community groups who battle it out for the prestigious trophy!
Other events throughout the year include Summer Fete, Family Fun Evening, Family Bingo and Murder Mystery Evening.

How Do We Spend The Money Raised?
This is usually decided between Mrs Hill, after consultation with the staff, and the committee. Ideas may have been generated by the children at the school Council, such as some new play equipment. Other times it may be for resources to improve an area of the curriculum or school environment, for example acquiring interactive white boards for Pluto class.
So far this year we have purchased a new pond and refurbished the area around it.

This term, Pluto Class garden area is going to enlarged and landscaped and Mrs Hill has asked the PTA to help purchase the following items:
- Shed
- Covered Sandbox
- Play House
- Large Play Equipment
We look forward to seeing this new and exciting project take place.

How Can You Get Involved?
There are lots of ways that you can get involved in the PTA.
If you are unable to commit time on the committee, how about helping out at one of our events? We are always looking for volunteers to help with the organisation of events, from the planning, buying of provisions, setting up, running a stall/bar or tidying up at the end.
It is also really good to have new and fresh ideas, particularly if you have come from other schools! We are also always looking for people who can face paint, hair braid, make cakes etc., so if you think you can help us out, come along to a meeting, speak to a member of the committee or contact us via the link above.
We are also always looking for raffle prizes, so if you are able to donate, or the company you work for is able to donate anything it is always very much appreciated.
Most importantly, come along to the events and bring your friends and family too!
